Thanks to Sport England, we are getting ready for whatever COVID throws at us when the new season starts. Gildredge Park Bowls Club is immensely grateful to Sport England for a grant of £950 to help us "Return-to-Play".
The money has paid for some adjustments to the clubhouse to make it COVID-safe when we are allowed back. We have purchased six 80cm wide perspex screens, four with serving cut-outs. These rest on the counter surface and help keep servers and customers safe. They can be easily moved around according to need. We have purchased a set of red ropes and posts to help organise queues. Once COVID is over these smart ropes will help with formal club events. The grant also pays for extra serving trays, wooden stirrers, mugs, and other bits and pieces so the kitchen and bar can cope with whatever restrictions are in force. Further, the grant pays for four members of the club to take the Bowls England activator training to join the club's coaches in welcoming potential new players at forthcoming open days. Bowls England will be making a big push over the Spring Bank Holiday (Friday 28th to Monday 31st May). Bowls’ Big Weekend is a national initiative offering clubs the opportunity to promote our welcoming and socially-distanced sport and attract new members.
The movable screens means we can adapt to indoor / outdoor / social distanced catering as the club and the whole country move through the road map back to normality. The screens fold flat for storage in case there is easing then tightening should COVID flare back up.
Many thanks to our grants sub-group of Jo Doust, Ron Putland and Marilyn Doust for all their efforts in pursuing grants to help keep the club afloat and ready for renewal.
