"In like a lion and out like a lamb" goes the folklore for spring weather. Which was apt as club members gathered on a rainy and windy day for the annual spring lunch at the Langham hotel. But despite the lively weather, and the delay to the opening of the greens, members were in high spirits - literally so in some who were recently back from the Portugal bowling tour but holding on to the pre-lunch cocktail routine!

Petina Hapgood hosted. Petina and Linda Henderson had put together a superbly organised event. Club Chair Jo Doust welcomed members and also led toasts to the new King, to the club, and to friends old and new, past and present. Ellen Strevens said grace. Club President David Forge gave a speech about bowling down-under and in England at Gildredge. Members enjoyed a three course meal and coffee.
Best or funniest?
A great success. Petina handed round post-it notes to everyone so over lunch they could write down their best/funniest experiences at the club. The diners really entered into the spirit and dozens of comments were handed back. To laughter or cheers the comments were read out by Petina, David and Jo. Here's a selection.
After the meal the raffle numbers were pulled and a table-full of great prizes won.
The weather folklore is coming true with the lamb triumphing over the lion. The forecast is fair for the coming week. Fingers crossed for the greens to be fit for play, and a busy opening drive on April 23rd.
