A mysterious cat, feely bags, Tammy Wynette, a cast of actors, music hall songs, and a sumptuous buffet were amongst the treats at the Gildredge Park Bowls Club Christmas event. There was plenty of laughter, loud rounds of applause, oohs and aahs, and King Rat was soundly booed every time he spoke. I heard people say "the best Christmas party for 20 years".
Seventy members piled into the club on Saturday 14th December 2024. The room looked splendid - there were two Christmas trees, with decorations around the walls and hanging from the ceilings. Tables had been dressed and music played.
M.C. Petina Hapgood kept the evening runnning smoothly and the crowd in good order!
The entertainment started with some solo pieces - hidden talents emerging from Russell Buckingham and Jeff Barnes in particular.. Then the whole cast performed Dick Whittington as a panto. What a performance!
The buffet was something else! Ham, turkey and salmon - salads, potatoes, rice - sausage rolls, eggs, cheese and pineapple on sticks - also vegan and vegetarian options. And then tropical cheesecake, strawberries and trifle. Not forgetting cakes and cheese and biscuits. I think everyone in the room went back for seconds.
Santa's elves made sure drinks were on tap.
The raffle followed. Members had been generous in donating prizes and there was so much on offer that I had to take four photos to show it all!
Congratulations to Brian Welfare who won the top prize of a large hamper
It was now getting late but with a final burst of energy everyone enjoyed some traditional Christmas party games - pass the parcel, balloon in the jar, and feely bags - and a little sing.
So much thanks needs to go to the club members that put so much time and effort into organising this event. It was outstanding. Don't miss next years!
