Bowler Roy Payton has become the latest famous person to be named on a bus in Brighton joining such luminaries as Dusty Springfield (singer), King Charles II, Jack Hobbs (cricketer), Sally Gunnell (athlete), Chris Eubank (boxer), Minnie Turner (suffragette), Norman Cook (Fatboy Slim) and Isambard Kingdom Brunel (engineer).
Roy is a member of Gildredge Park Bowls Club in Eastbourne. Known as "Roller Roy" for his expertise on skates, he has been acknowledged by Brighton and Hove Bus company as "going above and beyond" by raising money for many years for a number of charities, mainly for children, cancer and currently dementia.
Roy is 84 years old and his energy is undiminished. His latest challenge has been to walk 1,000 miles in aid of Dementia UK. Roy completed his walk and has asked us to convey his thanks to everyone in the club.
He said “I have completed the challenge I set myself and I have raised £920! I would like to thank you all for your support and help.” Roy's JustGiving page is still open and continued donations are welcomed. Click here: Roy's Just Giving page
