It was a wonderful weekend of bowls as Gildredge park Bowls Club hosted the 2022 Eastbourne Town Men's and Mixed bowls finals on Saturday and Sunday 27th/28th August. A good number of Gildredge players had entered the Town competitions and many had advanced through the early rounds but didn't quite make the finals. Nevertheless, the finals weekend saw Gildredge appearing in three events and winning in two.
Mal Rossell has put together a delightful photo montage of the weekend, plus a few photos from the ladies finals the previous week at Motcombe.
The weekend got off to a cracking start as Duncan Pickering and Arthur Strevens put on an immaculate display to triumph in the men's veteran pairs against Selvey and Wilson from Royal Sovereign. The rest of the day saw the finals of the Nye Water pairs, the mixed triples, the lifeboat singles, and the Tolley Bowl. Sunday morning saw the Towner rinks team of Jo Doust, Kevin Hilton, Duncan Pickering, and Rob Ramsden. The Gildredge team played well but didn't get momentum or their fair share of wicks! They lost to the team of Titchener, O'Leary, Rew and Caitlin from Hampden Park. In the afternoon George Murray and Jenny Townsend triumphed in a very close match against a pair from Eastbourne (Saffrons). Other matches on Sunday were the men's triples, the Australian Pairs and the Croal men's singles.
The weekend was enhanced by outstanding organisation, catering, bar, and atmosphere created by our Gildredge members. Marilyn, Ros and Ellen had organised it all and worked tirelessly for two days. The kitchen was busy all weekend serving bacon sandwiches, sausage rolls, fresh sandwiches, and cakes. The kitchen alone contributed £445 to club funds. Richard had organised the bar which was busy all day. Many other members helped out over the weekend on the rotas, baking cakes, and around the greens. Thank you everyone - you made it yet another great Gildredge success.
